Loren Coleman
One of my heroes fell off his pedestal today and Im quite sad.
For many years I have admired the work of Loren Coleman in the realm of cryptozoology. I have supported him through purchase of his books, and reading and responding on his website. We've traded emails about Mothman in the past. I held him in high esteem--even was very fond of him, which he has interpreted as some sort of sexual overture.
Lately, Sue Darroch has taken him to task over his comment that perhaps women have an advantage over men in the field when hunting bigfoot. He had originally posted in his blog that the creature might find a woman more attractive and less threatening. I commented to Sue that I found that to be a bit chauvanistic. She quoted me in her blog and all hell broke loose. The two of them are in a blog war with me smack dab in the middle.
All the while, Loren hasn't bothered to answer my email from weeks ago regarding the nesting habits of bigfoot. Aparantly he's been too busy pimping his new release of an old book, making media appearances, and trashing Sue and I to do any real research.
So I got to thinking about it. What has he really contributed? Let's say, in the past 10 years...what has he done? Media. Offered opinion. Written a bit. Started a museum. All worthy agendas, but certainly nothing to put him on a pedestal.
So it has come to pass that I no longer want to be an equal to Loren Coleman. While I continue to read his work, it will be with a different eye. While I'm sure he still has much to offer, it's clear his agenda is less about the research and more about the "craft" regarding the study.
Sad.

I think the whole thing was overblown to the point of loopy. Chin up! And you know what it is his loss, not yours!
Cheers!

somtimes it happens when we trust someone from blindly our idol or in this case you like him as a very good and knowledgeable writer but that one comment made you think some other side of the coin and changed your vision regarding Loren Coleman. Now whenever you read any of his articles or books, you would be more criticized towards his work.

Nice to see some one like Joe Nikell to bring a good, sane explanation to this Loch Ness nonsense. I know it doesn't satisfy a believer who still seems to think there is a creature there even without a viable breeding population and dead animals washing up on the shore.

3rd vote: also just started using it - re: stuck to "old ways" previously. This control should do for 90% ++ of user information collection flows, so it would really be great to have this in css.

Very worthwhile submit. Your own blog is fairly quickly growing to be considered one of my top features.
