Interesting US election coming

I must admit, Im intrigued.  Top contenders are Rudy Guiliani and Barack Obama.

Obama is a good guy, basically.  Hot on ecological issues involving lead, climate change, and cleaning up the great lakes.  He supports a strong but responsible defense policy, with special emphasis on the individual soldier's rights and benefits.  He's active in his home church and his Southside Chicago home community.  He's supportive of senior citizens.  All the good things about being a Liberal.

But he's got some not-so-promising stuff too.  His name for one.  As ridiculous and uneducated as it may sound, folks are not going to jump on the bandwagon for a guy named Obama.  Its just too close, too soon, to Osama.  Even though Obama was born in Hawaii.

He's young.  He's just turned 45 and is only in his second year as a US Senator.  He lacks the respect that longevity and age give a campaign.

And he's a person of color.  Gonna be hard to swing wavering conservatives to support a non-white candidate, even if he is a man.  Folks in the democratic party are going to feel like they have to choose between a black man and a woman (Hillary).  No matter how great each of them are, or how great they would be for the country, it's going to come down to that.

And for pete's sake--how do you beat Guliani?

He's a proven leader (9-11) and a long time politician.  He was the assistant attorney general for the US.  He reduced crime in NYC by over 50% during his time as mayor.  He cut welfare rolls in half and reduced taxes by BILLIONS.  He was personally trapped in one of the WTC corridors and survived.  It will always come back to that.  John McCain is a decent candidate and a decent politician (if there is such a thing) but Guliani is a powerhouse in public appeal.

If Guiliani wins the republican nomination there will be no stoppping him.  The problem Im having is that Im not finding information on his personal platform.  I want to know what he wants to do, not what he already has done.  I fear he's going to be the front man for the Party, whose goals and ideals already displease me.

Personally, I'd love to see Hillary Clinton running the US.  She's tough and compassionate, has experience in the world stage, and will have no trouble winning the female vote on all parties.

Let the race begin.  Gonna be a good one.
